Geraldine McGeorge
Director, Education Through Music Canada
1934–2001
|
It is with
deep regret that we announce the passing of our Director,
Gerry McGeorge. She passed away suddenly on the morning of July
24, 2001 during a discussion time following a session of ETM and
the Family.
Gerry, who founded
ETM in Canada, will be deeply missed. Words cannot adequately
describe her importance in bringing Education Through Music
to thousands of children and adults throughout Ontario and around
the world. She had a very special way with children. As well as
taking great delight in play, Gerry brought enjoyment and wonder
with her and was a wonderful model and mentor to all who studied
with her. She was governed by her concern for the well-being of everyone,
young and old, with whom she had contact. All felt listened
to, cared for, and loved by this dynamic and tireless lady
in their every shared connection.
Gerry's family
was extremely important to her as well. As "Aunt Geraldine"
to her nieces and nephews, their spouses and especially their
children, she shared in their joy and pain at every opportunity in
her busy life. Life at her lovely home on Lake Erie was frequently
shared with those who gave her such great delight and pride — her
family.
Memories of Gerry/Aunt
Geraldine/Geraldine McGeorge, Director of The Richards Institute
of Education and Research, will always be of her deep caring for
all and her wonderful smile and laughter. They also include many
moments of feeling sincerely listened to and at the same time always
afforded opportunities for learning.
Gerry's
funeral was held in Thamesville, Ontario, on Saturday, July
28, 2001 with interment at the Chatham Cemetery followed by a reception
for family and neighbours at her house. Here at the Richards Institute, we
are preparing for a celebration of her life, and more information will be
posted as plans are finalized.
